Kemi Badenoch models herself on Margaret Thatcher, so we are told. She has certainly grasped the cold image. Watching and listening to her is enough to chill you to the bone. In typical Tory thinking the nations woes are down to the poor and mentally ill. Its not the politicians with the actual power and who make policy, but the weakest in society with no voice - people on benefits, immigrants, anyone who is poor. Her latest fix would be to cut money for those on Universal Credit and other benefits for the undeserving by £13Bn more than the £23Bn already announced, and only pay it on a debit card which can only be spent on what she decides is appropriate. No alcohol. No tobacco (as if anyone on benefits could afford it anyway). Who knows what else she'll ban, on a whim. She'd use the money saved to build 50,000 new prison places. Not quite enough to place ALL the poor into, but I'm sure she'll try to get there. Inheritance Tax will be abolished on homes over £500,000. Something which wont matter to the vast majority of people, just her rich friends. And people earning over £200,000 will get free childcare, as boarding school fees and second home maintenance mean they need the extra help as you can guess. The Tories may be on only 20% in the polls (being generous), and lag third place behind Reform, but Kemi thinks the Tory brand of knocking the poorest to benefit the rich still has appeal to voters. They just need to find these rare political specimens. When Margaret Thatcher died a No.1 single was born "Ding-Dong ! The witch is dead !". When she dies everyone will just be asking "Kemi who ?"
