Unfortunately, with this authoritarian proto-fascist President, all of these scenarios are a frightening reality. And so America stands on the precipice of choosing democracy, or accepting the descent into fascism. However, if he has no choice but to accept defeat the prospects for anti-Trumpers is both inviting, and terrifying. The Democrats, who in a two-party State have the distinction of being the most sane option, say that they will prosecute and impeach Trump and his odious defence secretary Hegsteth. Some hope that the result will be Trump in jail for life. Maybe his sons, too. Maybe Kushner and Witkoff. Everyone knows they deserve it. The issue comes when we consider an 80 year old man with nothing to lose who still has Executive power, who still controls the nuclear trigger, and who has already made it clear that he cares nothing for laws or precedent. Corner a rat and the roles can switch very quickly. When Democrats win they need to stamp on the Trump Rat hard, and make sure it’s dead.
